WORSHIP & MUSIC MINISTRY

One thing you'll find at AVPC is that we have a passion for the arts, especially for music and for ministering through song, and that we are blessed with many members and regular attenders who are especially gifted in this artistic area. We offer programs for people of all ages - children have a music class which meets on Sunday evenings in the fall, and many of our students serve musically on the youth praise band and also in both Sunday morning worship services. If you'd like to plug into music ministry at AVPC, please look below to learn more about our choir, orchestra, praise team, and worship support team. Adult Choir

The Adult Choir sings nine months of the year (September – May) and participates in the early worship service (8:30 a.m.) on the first Sunday of each month and in the late worship service (11:00 a.m.) the other three weeks. The choir performs classical, traditional, and contemporary music and frequently utilizes additional instrumentation.

  • Rehearsal times are Sunday evenings, 5:00-6:30 p.m.
  • The ability to read music is not required, but an ear for music and a heart to praise God are necessary to participate. Regular attendance is expected.
  • Childcare is provided for rehearsals.
  • If you are interested in joining the Adult Choir or finding out more, contact Steve Whitner (steve@avpc.org).

Bell Choir

AVPC has a four and one half octave set of bells and performs seasonally.

  • Good to excellent music proficiency is necessary and auditions are required.
  • Childcare is provided for rehearsals if needed.
  • If you are interested in joining the bell choir or finding out more about it, contact Steve.

Children's Worship Arts Experience

  • Learning how to play instruments as well, such as boomwhackers, chimes, and percussion instruments.
  • Learning singing techniques and reading music.
  • Learning about worshipping God.
  • Having fun while they are learning these things.

Orchestra

The orchestra generally plays for special worship services, and is currently comprised of violin, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, rhythm, and percussion.  New players are enthusiastically welcomed.

Praise Team

This male/female vocal and instrumental ensemble leads worship for both Sunday morning services (8:30 and 11:00 a.m.). The team performs a blend of traditional and contemporary music and utilizes instrumentation such as piano, keyboard, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, and occasional solo instruments. The praise team also participates in special Sunday evening services scheduled throughout the year. Scheduling is flexible, with team members' schedules varying from once every two weeks to once a month.

  • Rehearsal times are Wednesday, 6:15 - 8:00 p.m. (Team members rehearse only on the Wednesday nights just prior to the Sundays they are scheduled.)
  • Good music reading and performance skills are necessary and auditioning is required.
  • Childcare is provided for rehearsals.

If you are interested in joining the praise team or finding out more about it, contact Steve Whitner, Associate Pastor (steve@avpc.org).

Worship Support Team

Ushering

AVPC ushering exists to provide support and direction to members and visitors entering the corporate worship center so that they will be better prepared and enabled to hear the gospel message. Ushers serve one Sunday a month in one service and they are offered advanced training. If you are interested in serving as an usher, contact Steve Whitner (steve@avpc.org).

Communion Set-Up

The AVPC Communion Set-Up Team is responsible for preparing the elements for the Lord's Supper, which is celebrated at AVPC once a month. Most sub-teams prepare the Lord's Supper approximately once every three to four months. If you are interested in serving on the communion set-up team, contact Steve Whitner (steve@avpc.org).
