Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Brad Allison has been pastor of AVPC since 1993. Prior to that, he planted a church in Glen Burnie, Maryland, and then pastored that same church for nine years. He graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in 1981, after which he served three years as Assistant Pastor at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia before moving to Maryland. He and his wife, Wendy, have three children: Matthew, Meredith, and Kathryn.
Steve, the son of a PCA minister, grew up in the Appalachian mountains of southwest Virginia. He graduated from King College in Bristol, Tennessee, received an M.A. Degree in Church Music from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, an M.Div. from Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, and a D.Min. from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis. Steve is married to Tracy and they have three children: Stephanie, Michael, and Rachel. In addition to his love of music, Steve enjoys playing and watching sports, hiking, camping, and reading. He has been employed at AVPC since 1990.
Michael was born on an air force base in California, but considers Statesboro, GA his hometown. He and his wife Amy met in Birmingham when Michael was in seminary at Beeson Divinity School. He was Assistant Pastor here from 1999-2003 serving the youth and adult ministries. Before moving back to Birmingham, he served as pastor of the PCA church in Monroeville, AL. They have 4 children who continually keep them in awe of God’s grace and mercy. Michael enjoys pretty much any outdoor activity that keeps him active, music, art, and listening to people’s stories.
Adult Ministry Leader
Blake was raised in Birmingham, AL, and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Communication. After college, he served as an Intern for Reformed University Fellowship for two years at Washington and Lee. Blake returned to Birmingham to study at Beeson Divinity School and he graduated with his M.Div. in December 2017. He joined the staff of AVPC in June 2016 and served as the Young Adult Leader prior to assuming his new role as the Adult Ministry Leader. In his free time, Blake enjoys hiking, running with his dog, and eating cereal.
Clint was born and raised in Birmingham. He graduated from University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in history in 2000 and in 2009 he earned an M.A. degree in history from the same institution. His plan was to earn a PhD in history and teach at the university level. The Lord’s plan was for Clint to teach junior high and high school history at Restoration Academy for 13 years. He is married to the beautiful Silena Morrison Cvacho and they have three children; Will, Francie, and Vivien.
Betty grew up in a minister's family in Hopewell, Virginia and met her husband Jon while at Wheaton College. She has taught art, theater, and foreign languages to kids of many ages, as well as homeschooling her own two daughters, Joanna and Emma. Betty joined our staff in 2011.
Christine has been at Altadena since February, 2017. She was born and raised in Ohio, and after a few detours to Indiana and Kansas, she finally made the move south, in 1999. She loves living close to her girls, and grand-children. Her hobbies include loving on her dog, Lily, singing, and crafting with her girls. She has served in administrative positions for almost 20 years and is looking forward to serving her Altadena church family.
Girls' Discipleship Director
Dawn, a pastor's daughter, grew up moving around. She spent the majority of her years in Memphis, Tennessee, and eventually landed in Birmingham in 1996. She and her husband Jeff have three children, Jack, Colson, and Lucy. She has always had a heart for youth ministry, serving off and on with students since college. Dawn has been a member at AVPC for some time and began serving as our Girls' Discipleship Director in September 2015.
Women's Ministry Leader
Amy was born in Atlanta and raised in Detroit and Chicago before moving to Sylacauga, right before high school. She has a heart for ministry and loves to spend time getting to know other women. She and her husband, Michael, have been married 20 years, and have 4 children and 1 dog. She loves Chick-Fil-A, but would be up for anything involving friends. Amy joined AVPC as Women’s Ministry Leader in March 2017.
Elizabeth grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Graphic Design. She has lived in Birmingham since 2014 and graduated with an M.Div. from Beeson Divinity School in December 2017. Elizabeth and her husband, Shaphan, met while studying at Beeson and were married in June 2016. She enjoys reading, hiking, exploring the botanical gardens, playing board games, teaching Bible studies, and cooking dinner for family and friends.
Jimmie grew up in Birmingham. She loves music, reading, cooking, and gardening. She shares her life with Molly, her four-legged BFF, who is a black lab mix and loves to be the boss of the family. Jimmie has been serving on staff with us since 1995 as our bookkeeper.
Worship Ministry Assistant
Dee grew up in Birmingham and was part of a family that loved community and enjoyed the outdoors. She and her husband of over 37 years have three wonderful children, a wonderful daughter-in-law and one precious granddaughter. Dee graduated from University Of Alabama-Birmingham in 2015 with a BS degree in Social Work. Dee is busy at AVPC – holding several positions, but in her spare time she enjoys spending time with family, reading, gardening, and having fun with friends. She looks forward to hearing stories of the amazing ways God loves us and enjoys sharing her own story of how God is at work in her own life. Dee and her husband have been members of AVPC since 2012.
Children's Ministry Assistant
The Lord has provided AVPC with a new Children’s Ministry Assistant, Michelle Taylor. Michelle and her husband, Scott (a pilot with AirMed), have lived in Russia and the Ukraine, where they served as MTW short-term missionaries. Michelle, her husband and 5 children just moved to Birmingham this year. Michelle began her ministry with us in March 2017.
Jody joined our staff in January 2017 as our full-time facilities manager. He is married to Melanie and they have two sons, Luke and Eric. In his free-time, Jody enjoys relaxing with a good book, hunting, walking trails with his boys, and horses.
Jameson was born and raised in Arley, Alabama. Jameson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Montevallo. He continued his students at the University of North Texas, where he received a Masters of Music in harpsichord performance and early music. In his free time, he enjoys reading, walking, road trips, and visiting museums and antique stores.
Diana joined our staff in November 2011. She came to us with 30 years of experience after raising nine children with her husband Russell. With no grandchildren of her own, she enjoys tending to the church nursery.
